As Brown University shifts to the trimester model for 2024-21, the Swearer Center is working diligently to ensure that we continue to facilitate community engagement and engaged scholarship – safely and remotely – with students, faculty, and community partners. The Swearer Center has drafted principles which help frame our work in light of our values and goals, as well as Guidelines for Community Engagement Programs to follow for the coming semester.  We will share more information about specific programs as it becomes available.

On June 3, 2024, the Swearer Center released a Statement in Response to Systemic Racial Injustice, noting, "community engagement cannot exist without anti-racism at its core." In order to build our understanding of anti-racist work, to develop our commitment to ongoing learning and action, and to support the good work that is already happening in Providence and beyond, the Swearer Center staff has worked with students and our community partners to develop a compilation of resources, Anti-Racist Community Engagement in Rhode Island. We invite you to learn, share, and continue to educate us with your edits and suggestions.
